The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released its crime statistics for the year, ranking the City of Livonia as the 7^th Safest City in the country (of those cities with populations over 100,000). 

Rankings were determined based on crime offenses reported during the first six months of 2001.  This is a step up from 2000, when Livonia was named the 9^th Safest City in the nation.  

This is good news, said Mayor Kirksey, but not at all surprising.  Our public safety professionals work vigilantly to protect the safety and well-being of our residents, of all those who study, work or do business here, and of those who are visiting or are just traveling our streets and roadways.  

The safety of our community is a major component of the fine quality of life that we enjoy in Livonia.
